N Street Village: Celebrating 45 Years

45 years ago, just after riots decimated a once thriving 14th Street, members of Luther Place Memorial Church invited eight women to sleep in their sanctuary. Together with their friends and other faith communities, these women and men decided they could no longer walk past the poverty they saw on their city’s streets. In opening their doors, they made a promise to their neighbors in need: we will be there for you. From that simple act of compassion, N Street Village was born and has grown to be the largest provider of housing and supportive services to women experiencing homelessness in D.C.
