Volunteer Spotlight: Carlita Walker

September Volunteer Spotlight: Carlita Walker
Carlita first discovered N Street Village through a friend and has been volunteering for over 12 years. “Everything from helping in the Volunteer and In-Kind office, to the clothing closet, and now I teach a class two times a week, called Day by Day and All About Me, which helps women talk about their past in a safe and welcoming environment.”
Let’s get to know more about Carlita…

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the D.C. area?

  • I am a native Washingtonian and I’ve lived here for 64 years.

What is your favorite D.C. restaurant?

On a Saturday evening you will find me…

  • In front of the TV watching Law and order SVU. I really love watching old movies on TV and being at home, especially after the pandemic. I try to make sure all of my errands are done by Friday so that if I don’t have plans to hang out with my family I can stay in the house and relax.

What is the last movie you watched (and enjoyed)?

  • Why did I Get Married Too by Tyler Perry.

What is your favorite D.C. landmark?

  • The Washington Monument. I love when they used to have the free concerts on the mall. A close second is the African American history museum.

Describe N Street Village in three words or less.

  • Blessed, blessed, blessed.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering at N Street Village?

  • N Street Village itself. It takes a Village!

What makes N Street Village unique to you?

  • The people.
