New SHERO Shirts are here!

Our 2019 SHERO Shirts have officially arrived!

This year, the Village will be walking in purple in support of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the many residents, clients, staff, neighbors, and Village community members that have been affected.

Nearly 1 in 2 women who arrive at N Street Village report that they have experienced some type of domestic violence.

In addition, nationally:

  • Approximately 1 out of every 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and 1.3 million women are victims of domestic violence each year.
  • Approximately 50% of all women experiencing homelessness report that domestic violence was the immediate cause of their homelessness.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the reason purple is associated with October comes from “The women’s suffrage movement utilized purple, white and gold in the early 1900s as those were the colors of the National Women’s Party. The colors started over in England and symbolized purity, hope and loyalty.”

Every woman deserves a safe and dignified place to call home. Make sure you are signed up to walk with us at the Annual SHERO Family Walk on Saturday, October 19th to show your support and get your shirt!
