N Street 2020 Gala and Auction

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, N Street Village will host its Annual Gala & Auction at the Marriott Marquis, where nearly 1,000 guests from the private and public sector will join together to show their support for the Village’s mission to provide a safe and welcoming community.

For nearly 50 years, N Street Village has been a critical anchor in D.C. as the largest provider of life-saving housing and supportive services for women experiencing homelessness. Beyond the District, the Village has become a national model, gaining recognition from national media outlets as well as praise and visits from public figures like Oprah Winfrey, the Dalai Lama, Richard Gere, Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Aloe Blacc.

This year’s event will recognize three N Street Village clients – Sharon Baker, Nataki Edison and Jewel McNeill. All three will share their stories of triumph and perseverance as well as the hope and healing they found at the Village.

Jewel McNeill, whose journey was featured in The Washington Post this winter, sums up what is possible within the supportive community at the Village: “There was a time I couldn’t even look at myself. But through the process, I started to believe. Now I look in the mirror and can say ‘I love you’ to my reflection.”

Alongside these three clients, N Street Village will recognize longtime volunteers and donors Sherry Hiemstra and Decker Anstrom with the Founder’s Award for their dedication to the women of N Street Village their unshakable belief in the possibility of a more just community for all of our neighbors.

The evening will also feature Grammy-nominated progressive hip-hop artist and D.C. native, Christylez Bacon, who will perform with the N Street Village and Luther Place Ambassadors of Praise. Bacon was nominated for a Grammy for Banjos to Beatbox, a children’s album covering many different musical genres.

The event will include a silent auction and raffle. All proceeds will directly benefit the mission of N Street Village and their efforts toward a future where every woman in need has a safe place to call home in D.C.
