N Street Village Announces New CEO

Dear Friends of N Street Village,

We are delighted to write you today to share exciting news for the N Street Village community. After a comprehensive nationwide search process, the N Street Village Board has selected Kenyatta T. Brunson as its next Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization. As many of you know, Kenyatta most recently served as our Chief Program Officer and is intimately involved with our programs that serve over 70% of D.C.’s female homeless population.

Early in the process, Kenyatta differentiated herself as the natural choice and, the Board was very excited to find a highly qualified internal candidate that will be able to seamlessly continue advancing the Village. We believe Kenyatta brings the right energy, vision, and compassion necessary to lead N Street Village and continue our mission of empowering homeless and low-income women.

Over the course of the coming year, we hope you all will have an opportunity to meet Kenyatta. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome as our new CEO.

With gratitude,

Peter Shields and Ruth Sorenson
Board Chair and Vice-Chair

Dear N Street Village Family,

As I write this letter, I am truly humbled. On my first official day as Chief Executive Officer, I am honored and privileged to address you—the amazing Village community.

I am very proud to be part of an organization that leads with respect, dignity, and compassion in the field of women’s homelessness and is a trusted partner in this fight. The work we do every day contributes to ending homelessness one woman at a time.

This year, with your help, we have tackled many problems and realized accomplishments that were firsts for our organization: not missing a step during our first global pandemic response that ensured the safety of staff and clients, and our first actions in response to the civil unrest in the world that sparked our renewed commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion. I am excited to lead an organization like N Street Village during a time when we can foster innovative solutions to support those who need our help the most. I look forward to many firsts together as the Chief Executive Officer with the support of this community. We will not grow complacent so long as the need for our services remains.

Let us also celebrate the remarkable progress made at N Street Village under Schroeder Stribling’s leadership. We will build on this success and maintain the positive trajectory all of us have built together—it has taken our collective effort over many years to get to this position.

I also thank the Village Board of Directors for their trust and confidence in me to build upon this success. As I think about our future as an organization and the path ahead, I know that it is the skills, talents, and passion that we bring to work every day that makes N Street Village what it is today. Together with the entire community, we will keep on this journey until the need is not there.

As CEO, I know there will be days when our work might be difficult and the challenges large, but my promise to you is to lead with an open heart, to listen, and to know that together we can and will help ensure every woman has a safe place to call home.

Thank you for the trust you have placed in me. I look forward to meeting those of you I don’t yet know and continuing to work with those I do. I am especially honored to lead N Street Village’s incredible professional team.

Warmest Regards,

Kenyatta T. Brunson, MSA
Chief Executive Officer
