Meeting the Moment

Dear Village Friends,

As autumn unfolds in Washington, change is happening beyond the leaves turning color. Local finances and donor resources are shifting, even as more women turn to N Street Village for support. Our roots reach back to the late 1960s, during a tumultuous time in the city. The Village welcomed some of our most vulnerable neighbors with compassion and care—a spirit of community that continues to this day. Now, as we navigate this season of uncertainty, the Village is being asked to do more with less, and we want to keep our community informed about how economic trends are affecting our work

So many factors are impacting Washington, DC’s economy even as we are seeing the need for our services rising: we are welcoming roughly 300 more individuals each month than at this time last year and serving more than 4,000 meals every month—nearly 1,000 more than a year ago.

While we cannot control every external factor, N Street Village’s dedication to women experiencing homelessness remains as strong as it has been for more than 50 years. We are keeping our emergency shelter open 24 hours a day, and providing new supports such as a 24-hour crisis hotline. We’re also leaning into private fundraising to help bridge funding gaps.

With your partnership, the Village will continue to provide safe housing, vital services, and a welcoming community where every woman can find dignity and hope.

Thank you for standing with us during these challenging times and for helping us sustain the Village’s mission for years to come.

With gratitude,
