Health and Wellness

N Street Village offers integrated mental health, physical health, and addiction recovery services to homeless and low-income women. Our program offerings take a holistic approach to wellness, addressing the mind, body, and spirit. Most of our integrated health offerings are provided in our Wellness Center.

Mental Health ServicesSandra in the Wellness Center

We provide women with mental health education, support groups, crisis intervention assistance, and psychiatric referral services. A psychiatrist from Unity Health Care visits our site weekly to meet with clients.

Current classes and support groups with a mental wellness focus include:

  • Anger Management
  • Ask the Psychiatrist
  • Grief and Loss
  • Let's Talk Mental Health
  • Meditation
  • Relationship Rap
  • Relaxation
  • Self-Esteem
  • Stress Reduction
  • Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM) groups

We also offer a variety of arts/creative expression classes for women. We have an arts and crafts studio where women can work on personal and group projects and learn how to knit and crochet. Members of our music class often perform at N Street Village and community events as the "Bethany Women of Praise" choir. We offer acting classes through a partnership with the Theatre Lab. Women can also express themselves through the written word in our autobiography, journaling, and poetry classes.

Physical Health Services

Our Wellness Center provides women with direct health care and wellness consultations from a licensed nurse, a twice-weekly primary care clinic operated by Unity Health Care, and an array of services and activities that promote health education, physical fitness, and holistic well-being. Examples of our classes and support groups with a physical wellness focus include:

  • Aerobics
  • Afro-Brazilian Dance
  • Ask the Doctor
  • Eat Smart, Move More
  • Every Diabetic Counts
  • Smart Start to Wellness
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Strong and Fit
  • Vegetable of the Month
  • Yoga

We provide HIV testing in our Wellness Center and housing for women living with HIV through our Miriam's House program. We are also planning to grow our services for homeless and low-income women who are living with or are at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS in the areas of stigma reduction, prevention, and wellness management.
