N Street 2020 Gala and Auction

Washington Post: N Street Village empowers women

“N Street Village, a social service agency in Northwest Washington that celebrates and empowers homeless and low-income women, raised more than $1.5 million Tuesday night during its star-studded annual gala at the Marriott Marquis ballroom.

“We are here tonight to celebrate many milestones reached and countless obstacles overcome,” N Street Village Executive Director Schroeder Stribling told a sold-out crowd. “We celebrate the opening this year of Pat Handy Place and the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA, which combine to make five locations of our Village providing safe and dignified housing for 500 individuals, and support services for 2,000 each year.” –

JOIN US FOR THE ANNUAL N STREET VILLAGE GALA

Every day, women who are homeless in Washington, D.C. — often struggling with a mix of mental illness, addiction, violence and abuse, health problems, and unemployment —  find themselves at the doors of N Street Village. And, every day for more than 40 years, the doors of N Street Village have been open, providing much-needed hope and hospitality to our city’s most vulnerable women.  This year we will present our Founder’s Award to Senator Barbara Boxer for her personal and professional efforts on behalf of individuals who live on the margins of society.

On Tuesday, March 24, the annual N Street Village Gala will provide us an opportunity to celebrate our remarkable history and to gather strength to keep our promise — our promise that we will be here for the women who arrive at our door tomorrow.

Celebrating 40 Years

Last Wednesday, so many friends—both new and old—helped make the celebration of our 40th anniversary an evening to remember. Together, we welcomed 600 guests and raised more than $760,000 for homeless and low-income women.

The powerful voices of Sweet Honey in the Rock, the ongoing commitment of our Founder’s Award honorees, Senators Kelly Ayotte and Senator Kay Hagan, and the inspiring examples of our clients Marshalle, Evelyn, and Ann—were all unforgettable.

N Street Village has been providing housing and services for the most vulnerable women in our city for forty years. At our 40th Anniversary Gala last week, we opened the evening with a video, which reflected on the evolution of N Street Village’s mission over the last 40 years, while also looking towards the future.

40th Anniversary Gala Steinbruck Honorees

On April 9, nearly 600 friends and supporters of N Street Village came together at The Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., for N Street Village’s 40th Anniversary Gala. At this year’s gala, we recognized three remarkable N Street Village clients who are an inspiration to all of us: Evelyn Brensen, Marshalle Gaither, and Ann Hill. The women received the N Street Village Steinbruck Award, which is presented annually to the clients whose leadership, persistence and determination reflect that of Erna and John Steinbruck, the co-founders of N Street Village.

In this video, which was shown at the gala, Evelyn, Marshalle, and Ann share what brought them to N Street Village and how their experience in our programs changed their lives for the better.
