State Giving Program Donation to Promote Women’s Empowerment Program
Washington, DC (November 17, 2015) – N Street Village today announced that the organization has received a $50,000 donation from the Walmart Foundation to further its mission of assisting homeless and low-income women achieve personal stability and make gains towards their housing, income, employment, mental health, physical health and addiction recovery. The grant — which was given to the non-profit organization through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program — will support N Street Village’s program designed to address the emerging and long-term needs of underserved women in Washington, DC.
“With the Walmart Foundation’s support, we’ll provide over 33,000 nutritious meals to nearly 1,400 women and families,” said Ann McCreedy, Grants Manager of N Street Village. “More than just meals, the Walmart Foundation is supporting an opportunity for engagement and connection. After a woman finishes eating, our staff invites her into conversation and helps her complete a District-wide assessment that can qualify her for housing. She is also encouraged to connect to our health center on site and provided referrals for other needed resources.”
The Walmart Foundation’s grant will help N Street Village address health problems for even more at-risk women in DC. Through this grant, women in Washington, DC will be provided with nutritious meals every day from a menu that will cater to the nutritional needs of women living with diabetes or at high risk for diabetes.
“Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are honored to support N Street Village in their mission to inspire women to be self-sufficient, healthy and confident,” said Jennifer Hoehn, Director of Public Affairs for Walmart. “Through this grant, we hope to provide underserved women in DC access to programs that will equip them with critical life skills that will help them achieve their full potential.”
