N Street Village’s Fifth Annual Luncheon on June 29th was a great success! In the words of our speaker, Susan L. Taylor, our hearts are filled with gratitude to all who were present.
The Community Ally award was presented this year to the Washington, DC, chapter of Back On My Feet. Its executive director, Autumn Campbell, accepted the award and N Street Village’s team, Stinky Feet, was also in attendance.
The highlight of the luncheon came from N Street Village’s Evelyn Green who recounted her own powerfully moving story about her journey from the streets smoking crack to her recovery at N Street Village. Twenty-five years ago, Evelyn was homeless, addicted, and sleeping under the stairs of the National Press Club building. Now, she found herself standing on the 13th floor of the National Press Club at a podium celebrating 20 years of sobriety and a life spent helping hundreds of other women like her overcome homelessness and addiction. Evelyn perfectly explained our mission to our guests when she said, “N Street Village will love you until you are ready to love yourself.”
Evelyn asked herself “Why me?” And then – “Why not me?” And so we ask — “Why not YOU?” You, too, can bring hope to women in need. Here’s how:
