Education and Employment

EEC Staff Working With Job Seeker

Our Education and Employment Center (EEC) assists women in achieving their literacy, vocational training, volunteer service, and paid employment goals.

Education Services

EEC provides clients with access to a computer lab, literacy training software, and tutoring services. EEC staff also helps connect clients to local programs that help women earn their GED.

Client Volunteer Program

Some of our clients are interested in volunteer opportunities -- as a way to give back to the community or as a means of gaining experience and building their resumes for paid employment. Team N Street, our client-volunteer program, mimics a "real-world" job experience. Volunteer positions -- including roles as receptionists, kitchen staff, community educators, and donation assistants -- are designed by staff. All jobs have job descriptions and an application and interview process. Client-volunteers keep timesheets and connect regularly with their supervisors to discuss their progress and performance.

Job Training and Employment

Mary in the EEC Computer LabEEC offers clients assistance with identifying, training for, searching for, and applying for paid employment. Staff offers regular classes on job readiness skills, interview skills, and financial management. We provide referrals to local partner programs for additional training and employment search support.

Thanks to the generous support of The Boeing Company and the Hal Maclay Gwinn Estate, EEC offers an innovative job training program, Working in Supportive Senior Environments (WISE).  WISE prepares women to work in support positions at senior care facilities and hospices and places training program graduates with partner employers. WISE graduates enter the job market with a food handler’s license, CPR/First Aid certificate and skills needed to care for the aging. Partner employers fill vacant positions with highly trained graduates. We welcome any facility serving seniors to contact us and request more information about this program.

Employment Retention Support

Our work doesn't end when our clients are hired. We provide ongoing support to women to help them retain their jobs. Destination Success is an incentive program that celebrates important employment milestones and encourages participants to stay connected to peers and supportive EEC staff. Participants receive N Street Village logoed products for demonstrating job retention and staying connected to the community. Our Job Keepers Club meets monthly for dinner to listen to guest speakers discuss professional development and to share their challenges and successes with each other.
